John Ashcroft Lies about Jesus being King – Seizes a Baptist Church

Ashcroft said – when I came on board last winter the first order was to seize the Baptist Temple

Former Attorney General John Ashcroft Declares Jesus Christ King over America – Admits That He Ordered Raid on Church

‘We Have No King But Jesus’

Following is the transcript of a speech delivered May 8, 1999, at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. by then-Senator John Ashcroft (R Mo.).  Ashcroft was the Attorney General of the United States of America who has admitted in his recent book Never Again-Securing America and Restoring Justice(Center Steel, 2007) that he personally ordered the raid on the Indianapolis Baptist Temple on February 13, 2001.

“Thank you very much, Dr. Bob. I want to thank each of you for investing yourselves in the mission of Christ – in redemption and forgiveness, and for preparing yourselves in the way that you have.”

A slogan of the American Revolution which was so distressing to the emissaries of the king that it was found in correspondence sent back to England was the line, “We have no king but Jesus.” Tax collectors came, asking for that which belonged to the king, and colonists frequently said, “We have no king but Jesus.” It found its way into the fundamental documents of this great country. You could quote the Declaration with me. “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.” Unique among the nations, America recognized the source of our character as being godly and eternal, not being civic and temporal. And because we have understood that our source is eternal, America has been different. We have no king but Jesus.

My mind, thinking about that, at once raced back a couple of thousand years when Pilate stepped before the people in Jerusalem and said, “Whom would ye that I release unto you? Barabas (sic)? Or Jesus, which is called the Christ?” And when they said “Barabas,(sic)” he said, “But what about Jesus? King of the Jews?” And the outcry was, “We have no king but Caesar.”

There’s a difference between a culture that has no king but Caesar, no standard but the civil authority, and a culture that has no king but Jesus, no standard but the eternal authority. When you have no king but Caesar, you release Barabas (sic) – criminality, destruction, thievery, the lowest and the least. When you have no king but Jesus, you release the eternal – you release the highest and the best.

It is not accidental that America has been the home of the brave and the land of the free, the place where mankind has had the greatest of all opportunities to approach the potential that God has placed within us. It has been because we knew that we were endowed not by the king, but by the Creator, with certain inalienable rights. If America is to be great in the future, it will be if we understand that our source is not civic and temporal, but our source is godly and eternal. Endowed by the Creator with rights of life, liberty and the pursuit if happiness. I thank God for this institution and for you, who recognize and commit yourselves to the proposition that we were so created, and that to live with respect to the Creator promises us the greatest potential as a nation and as individuals. And for such we must reacquaint ourselves daily with His call upon our lives.”

Following is an open letter to Mr. Ashcroft from the Congregation of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple dated March 1, 2002

The Honorable John Ashcroft Attorney General United States of America U.S. Department of Justice 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, D.C. 20530-0001

Dear Mr. Ashcroft:

This letter is to inform you that the congregation of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple is in total shock to learn of the slanderous and false remarks that you made about our congregation in a speech carried live on CNN and Fox News Network on December 5, 2001, in which you connected the Indianapolis Baptist Temple to domestic terrorism. This is especially egregious considering the events of September 11, the war against terrorism in Afghanistan, the Home Land Security effort and the new definition of terrorism that has been provided in the new anti-terrorism act just recently passed by the U.S. Congress that you helped draft and endorse. All of this is besides the horrible thoughts that the word “terrorism” brings to the mind of the general public because of the present, “war on terrorism” which dominates the political climate and is carried as the lead story in the media on a daily basis.

The slanderous and false words that our congregation takes exception to were delivered at the swearing in ceremony for Benigno Reyna the new Director of the Marshals Service which was held at the U.S. Marshal Service headquarters at Arlington, Virginia, on that date of December 5. Those words are as follows:

“And I would just add that since I became attorney general, I’ve had numerous opportunities to witness the truth of your message. For example, when I came on board last winter, the first Department of Justice operation conducted on my watch was for the department to seize the assets of an organization known as the Indiana (sic) Baptist  Temple. It was a Marshals Service assignment. The men and women of this agency worked patiently; they worked professionally with other law enforcement officials, with the media, and with church leaders to resolve some very thorny issues, not the least of those issues was the threat of armed militias and violence.”

This organization, you, the Marshals Service, defused a powder keg situation. You accomplished your mission. And in doing so, you earned the gratitude of a nation that knows the value of professionalism and dedication in law enforcement.”

These slanderous and untruthful comments are especially unconscionable in the same speech in which you also said preceding these remarks:

“As the Marshals Service director, Ben Reyna will stand with the men and women of the Marshal Service on the front lines of the war against terrorism. Just as our service men and women are risking their lives in the battle against the enemy overseas, it falls to those of us who are here at home in law enforcement to lead in America the battle against the enemy at home. The fight against terrorism and the preservation of innocent lives from terrorist threat is now the first and overriding priority of the Department of Justice. And even though the federal justice system today is more complex than it was when President Washington appointed the first 13 U.S. Marshals, our mission must be equally clear. Over the century, carrying out that mission has required new ways of doing business.

Now when terrorism threatens our future, we cannot afford to live in the past. We have to embrace the future and our core mission of protecting the nation and the citizens of our nation. Yes, it’s a huge undertaking, but this department can change when necessary, and adapt, and it can do so while it maintains high standards, safeguards that are essential to the democracy in which we live.”

Mr. Ashcroft, we commend you for taking personal responsibility for the raid and seizure on February 13, 2001, of the property belonging to the Lord Jesus Christ that had been given to the Congregation known as the Indianapolis Baptist Temple to hold in trust for Him for the propagation of the saving gospel of Jesus Christ – especially because most of the Christian community does not believe that a Christian President and Attorney General would continue the Clinton Administration war on religion and Biblical morality. But how tragic that you must confess that your first act as the Attorney General of the United States of America was to order the first raid and seizure of church property in the history of our beloved country since the ratification of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution over 200 years ago.

Mr. Ashcroft, our congregation would like to know several things not the least of what prompted you to mention the name of our congregation on this occasion? Could it possibly be the same reason that King Herod thought of John the Baptist when he heard of the Lord Jesus Christ as recorded in the sixth chapter of Saint Mark? “And king Herod heard of him…and said, It is John, whom I beheaded…For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison…” Obviously, it was Herod’s guilty conscience that brought the Baptist to mind. Was it your guilty conscience that brought the Baptist congregation in Indianapolis to your mind – the same fifty-one year old Baptist assembly that you personally ordered the raid and seizure of their property and the destruction of their 30 year old school ministry? For your sake, we can only pray so.

Possibly you are having the same problem that Herod was having as recorded in that same chapter? The daughter of Herodias asked for the head of John the Baptist in response to his promise, “…ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. And he sware unto her, whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.” And as you will no doubt recall, she asked for the head of John the Baptist. And then the scripture says, “And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes that sat with him, he would not reject her.” Obviously, you are a prime example as to why the Lord Jesus, who you claim to know in a personal way, said that we are not to make oaths because it leads to foolish actions like King Herod cutting the head off of the greatest man born among women, according to the Lord Jesus Himself.

In clear violation of the command of our Lord you too have taken a foolish oath as the Attorney General which declares that you will enforce all of the laws of the United States of America now and as long as you are in office regardless of how wicked, unconstitutional and unjust they may be. And just like Herod, because of those who sat with him (in your case those in the Bush administration, the Justice Department and former colleagues in the Senate), you are bound by the oath that you have made even though it means the closing of churches and Christian ministries all over America.

As long as time remains, who will ever forget your banal and insipid answers before the Senate Judiciary committee during your confirmation hearings? Will not history and heaven record that you alone made one of the greatest sell outs of your fellow Christians and the Christian faith since Judas betrayed our Lord 2000 years ago. Never in the history of the Christian church has one man had a greater opportunity to be a Christian witness as you were afforded the opportunity by Divine Providence before that Senate confirmation hearing for Attorney General last year. Has any representative of Christ looked any more inept than you did under the relentless badgering of the socialist anti-Christ Senators Kennedy, Shumer, Biden, and others. The cause of Christ would have been better served if you had just played the man and resigned your nomination. But instead you caved into those hypocrites and said, “I understand that being Attorney General means enforcing the laws as they are written, not enforcing my own personal preferences.” It would be far better for you and the Christian community in general for a rank God hater to sit in the office of AG rather than a professed Christian. At least the deception wouldn’t be as great and God wouldn’t be blamed for the unjust and unconstitutional laws that you are now enforcing.

Are you so ignorant of the history of our nation that you didn’t know by taking the oath of Attorney General that you were not making a commitment to our Christian Constitutional Republic but a socialistic Peoples Democracy that you yourself admitted to in your speech of Dec. 5? Why would you as a Christian take an oath to uphold laws that reflect the ten planks of the Communist Manifesto which has already resulted in the destroying of Christian churches and ministries including the imprisonment of pastors in our country with many more to follow? Are you prepared to use the strong arm of your Justice Department to continue this onslaught on God’s people? Obviously, you are now a dupe for the New World Order conspirators who have declared war on Christ and our Christian culture.

Are you not aware of the meeting that was held in the Clinton White House in late October, 1998, which consisted of UN diplomats, officials from the State Department, top deputies of the Reno Justice Department, Senior officials from the FBI, Customs Service, and the Treasury Department along with Clinton’s chief White House lieutenants? The purpose of the meeting was to devise a diabolical Master Plan, classified as “Top Secret” and limited to the eyes only of a select group of federal law enforcement and political operatives. That plan was to plot the total demise of the “uncooperative churches” of our nation. The raid and seizure of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple is the obvious result of that meeting and others before it. In that the top ranking officials of the Justice Department are still at their posts means that you took over an office that is manned by these vipers who hate the God of the Bible and the Christian heritage of America. And these are the ones that you listened to as they spewed out their falsehoods about the pastors and congregation of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple?

Having been in office for one week, you could not have had personal understanding of the attack that our congregation has undergone for over a decade at the hands of this wicked cabal that has taken over the U.S. Justice Department and other government agencies. Did they talk openly to you about destroying the pastor and congregation of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple because they didn’t like the message that was going out from the pulpit and church press, or did they keep this information from your ears? But obviously they repeated to you the lies that they had been telling on our pastors and congregation for many years which included such things as our church being, “the militia fronting as a church”, and that our church was “the center of militia activity in Indiana.” Apparently, this is the persecution that we must endure from this government for believing and stating publicly our belief in and support of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

What possible excuse will you use when you stand at The Judgment Seat of Christ for believing this evil report about our congregation? Do you not remember that our Lord was called a drunkard and a winebibber? They condemned Him also for eating with publicans and sinners. Did it ever occur to you that these reports of our congregation that you were given were not true? What evidence do you have that the Marshals, “defused a powder keg situation?” What evidence do you have that the Marshals, “…worked…to resolve some very thorny issues, not the least of those issues was the threat of armed militias and violence?” We totally repudiate this report from your lips as totally without merit. There was never any danger of armed violence during the 91 days in which our congregation exercised our Constitutional and God given right to, “redress of grievance” and “to peacefully assemble.” For 91 days and nights we had publicly announced worship services. Marshal Frank Anderson and local law enforcement knew that there was no danger of armed violence. What evidence do you have that our congregation collectively or individually was a threat to anyone in any way from November 14 when the District Court order was to be enforced until February 13 or before that date or since? Is this what your top aides, the carryovers from the Clinton Administration told you? If so why would you violate the scriptures by judging a matter before you hear it. Even Pilate refused to accept the accusations of the Jewish leaders until he had personally met with Jesus.

And may we ask, what was the hurry? Obviously, the Reno Justice Department wasn’t in a rush to raid the church. Debbie Westbrook, Chief Counsel for the Marshal’s office, told us on January 5 last year that the “higher ups” in the Justice Department had given Marshal Anderson an order to raid our church property before inauguration day January 20, but they didn’t do it, although they could have as easily as they did afterwards. Could it be that they planned it that way so the “Christian” Republicans would get the blame rather than the Democrats for raiding and seizing church property and destroying a Christian school ministry? But you admit that it was the first thing that you did on your watch. Are you not ashamed to have the raiding and seizing of property that belonged to the Lord Jesus Christ as the first act on your record for time and for eternity?

It is too bad that you have not taken heed to what Mordecai said to Esther the Queen of Persia when he learned of the plot of wicked Haman to kill all of the Jews in the land. She thought that she could ride out the crisis in comfort and safety because she was the Queen, but Mordecai knew better with these words of warning: “Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews. For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” It is too bad that those words will never be said of you because you sold your soul for a “mess of pottage” at the confirmation hearings when you bowed down to those wicked Hamanic Senators. But be assured, sir, when they are through using you to lull the Christian Right to sleep, they will discard you like a dirty rag like they did to Marshal Frank Anderson by not choosing him to continue as marshal after he had done their bidding in raiding the sanctuary of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple.

Do you have any idea of the seriousness of shutting up the house of God? For your edification, we would suggest that you read how King Hezekiah, “…did that which was right in the sight of the Lord” (2 Chronicles 29:2). Instead of having the reputation of shutting up the house of God as the first act on his watch, the scripture says that, “He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the house of the Lord and repaired them” (v-3). This admonition continues at v-6-7, “For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord our God, and have forsaken Him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the Lord, and turned their backs. Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps…” You could have had the distinction of being commended by God as good Hezekiah but because of your actions, unless their is repentance and restitution, you and President Bush will always be known as King Ahaz, Hezekiah’s father who, “…didnot that which was right in the sight of the Lord…” (2 Chronicles 28:1). This was said of him because he, “…gathered together the vessels of the house of God and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God ,and shut up the doors of the house of the Lord…” (v. 24).

The fact is President Bill Clinton and Janet Reno in concert with the Internal Revenue Service used the Justice Department and a willing court system to shut the doors of the house of God known as theIndianapolis  Baptist  Temple. But they didn’t do the final act of ordering the Marshals into the sanctuary of God, but you representing President Bush did. You, the publicly professed Christian did even though you had all kinds of legal ways to refrain from doing it. Why is it that President Clinton had no legal problem during his last days in office forgiving millions of dollars of tax debt owed by citizens of the US and billions of dollars of third world debt, but you as a Christian could not figure out a way to relieve this phony $6 million tax debt that the IRS said the Indianapolis Baptist Temple owed?

Are you not aware that other churches have been forgiven this same so-called tax debt without their church property being confiscated? Are you not aware that other churches have been forgiven judgments by various agencies of the federal government without their church property and ministries being destroyed? Do you not see the precedent that has been set here? All President Bush had to say was, that as a matter of Public Policy, his administration is not going to raid and seize church property in America. Why hasn’t your Justice Department raided and seized the property of Microsoft even though a judge said that they were guilty of all kinds of criminal activity? You know that the federal government can do whatever they want to do. Are you aware that using our case the authorities are already taking other church property and closing other ministries across the land? As a Christian, you should be using your position to protect the churches and people of God from this design of Satan to snuff out the Christian witness in America?

Do you not see a strange irony that at the same time the Bush Administration is in the process of giving $8 billion to churches that are organized as public charities and other so-called faith based organizations of which you are the chief architect, that at the same time they are stealing $6 million dollars worth of property from the Indianapolis Baptist Temple? Obviously, this whole thing revolves around more than the government needing more money. Do you not think it strange that at the same time the Bush Administration will be spending billions to restore Moslem Afghanistan including the rebuilding of Mosques dedicated to Allah – that they have also destroyed the property of a Christian church dedicated to Jehovah God – a church that was ministering to hundreds on a weekly basis in Sunday School and worship services besides the training of four hundred children in the Christian faith in our Christian school ministry.

Our congregation also wonders why you ignored two letters appealing to you to save our church property and school ministry? Those letters contained over fifty pleas from children and young people who begged you not to close their school. Many were planning on graduating who had never known another school since K5. Why did you ignore the pleas of hundreds across America who wrote you beseeching you to refrain from ordering the raid on the church? Why did you close your ears to the letters that gave you a legal remedy to leave the Indianapolis Baptist Temple and other churches across the land alone? And please spare us the hackneyed argument that you had a court order to enforce, or that you were just doing your job, etc. We believe the world heard enough of those clichés at Nuremberg.

Even to this day, your Justice Department could drop and vacate their case against the Indianapolis Baptist Temple because they are the plaintiff. Even though the IRS seized twenty acres of property and sold it to a bogus company that never existed at the time of the sale, and which a private detective agency said was probably a proprietary for the IRS, and the church parsonage was sold that had been the home of the pastor and his family for thirty-two years, the main church property on twenty-two acres is still sitting there literally deteriorating by the day, and as you know, could easily be given back to the congregation.

Based on the facts below we are going to restate for your benefit the real issues in the case of US v Indianapolis Baptist Temple and once again appeal to you to do whatever possible to rectify this terrible evil that your Justice Department and the Bush Administration has done to destroy the Christian faith and First Amendment to the US Constitution.

  • The evidence shows that the Clinton Reno administration personally targeted  the Indianapolis Baptist  Temple and their pastor which shows that they are using the IRS to eliminate all churches, ministries and preachers who dare to speak out against evil government.  Federal Judge S. Hugh Dillin on April 22, 1989, called for an IRS investigation from the bench in his federal court room in Indianapolis on the Indianapolis  Baptist  Temple  College and all associated with it because he did not like the prophetic voice of the pastor of the Indianapolis  Baptist  Temple.
  • Federal prosecutor Douglas Snoeyenbos, the lead prosecutor in US v IBT, has been quoted as saying that the “higher ups in the US Justice Department are out to totally destroy the pastor and the Indianapolis  Baptist  Temple.” He also expressed personal dislike for the pastor even though he has never met him.
  • A memo from the Treasury Department in the mid-eighties (date illegible) signed by an IRS agent declares that the pastor of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple “spoke out against the IRS and other government agencies in general” which shows that this rogue agency has no respect for the free exercise of religion or freedom of speech.
  • The record shows that the IRS had information on the Indianapolis  Baptist  Temple which admits that federal informants/agents infiltrated the Indianapolis  Baptist  Temple on a regular basis through the years in violation of federal law which has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
  • The evidence shows that for many years up and through the time of the Court judgment against the Indianapolis Baptist Temple federal agents consistently tapped phone lines including the violation of attorney/client privilege, intercepted emails, went through mail, collected trash from the pastors home, and tried to engage church members to inform on the pastors and congregation. And this was before the new anti-terrorism legislation.
  • A four inch file provided by IRS regulations to the Indianapolis Baptist Temple shows that the IRS has been collecting information about the Indianapolis Baptist Temple since 1971. That file among other things contained the following information: There was an article from the Indianapolis News stating that the Baptist High School would stress the Bible. Can you explain why such a thing would be of interest to the IRS? or any other governmental agency? The file also contained a church directory containing the pictures of the members of Indianapolis Baptist Temple and also the annuals of our Christian school ministry showing pictures of the children enrolled. which has had a chilling effect upon the members of the church as well as those whose children were enrolled in the school.
  • Using the information in that same file, the IRS publicly announced the revoking of the tax exemption of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple on May 11, 1995, because the pastor preached on those subjects which are now forbidden by the IRS such as pornography, legalized gambling, homosexuality, the wicked public education system, government encroachment on church ministries, and the rights of parents to discipline their children according to the word of God.
  • The IRS and the federal district court treated the Indianapolis Baptist Temple as a tax-exempt public charity (tax payer) under 501 (c) (3) of Title 26 of the IRC when in fact the congregation operated as a non- taxable New Testament Church demanding all of our God given right to practice our faith in the Lordship of Jesus Christ under the protection of the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
  • The gifts received by the assembly were not tax deductible and the church gave no tax deductible receipts for gifts given to God through the church.
  • The evidence shows that approximately sixty of those who served in the church ministry were audited by the IRS, and the evidence showed that they had no tax liability of any substantial degree and all had paid their own tax liability including both shares of the Social Security Tax. This of course means that the property that was seized from the Indianapolis Baptist Temple to satisfy this bogus tax bill had already been paid which is double dipping by the federal government to the worst degree.
  • The Justice Department filed suit against a non existent corporation with a non existent federal EIN number.
  • US Attorney Robert Metzler admitted in federal court in Indianapolis on August 23, 2001, that the Indianapolis Baptist Temple owes no taxes if we would only file for an exemption, which shows that this is not a tax issue but who will control the Lord’s assembly, God or the IRS. He said the same thing in oral argument at the Seventh Circuit on May 11, 2000.
  • · US Attorney Robert Metzler said twice before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeal on that same day that an uncontrolled church is untenable in America today.
  • · On the same day that District Judge Sarah Evans Barker, Indianapolis, gave the order for our church property to be seized, she also gave the order for the counties to rip up the monuments that were engraved with the Ten Commandments from the court house lawns in the State of Indiana. This means that not only cannot the commandments of God be displayed in public places in the State of Indiana, but because of the destruction of our Christian school and church property those same commandments cannot even be displayed in the church house.
  • Thousands of churches in America conduct their affairs just like the Indianapolis Baptist Temple. Are you now prepared to begin closing those churches?
  • Based on the Supreme Courts refusal to hear our case means that the New Testament church has been made illegal in the US today.
  • Because of the Bob Jones University v IRS case where the Supreme Court said that the Internal Revenue Service can set any rules they want to, they are taking the position that they now control all churches and ministries in America including all activities, content of the pastors sermons, what the church may give the pastor in love gifts, fund-raising activities, and to whom they can give charitable gifts.
  • Because of this carte blanc ruling in the BJU, case they are now using what they term as “procedures” to demand that before an evangelist, singer, or missionary can enter the pulpit to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, they have to give an ID number. This should sound great alarm to all believers in the light of those ominous words mentioned in the Apocalypse, “And that no man might by or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” (Revelation 13:17
  • To add insult to injury, the federal courts have legalized the right of the Santeria religion to pull the heads off of chickens in the downtown area of a large metropolis because not to allow them to do so would cause their god to die, but the Indianapolis Baptist Temple cannot practice their faith in the Lordship of Jesus Christ over His blood bought assembly. This means that in America today, pagan gods have a higher legal standing than the Lord Jesus Christ the true God on whom you claim to believe.

US v IBT is not a tax case as the IRS has styled it but a First Commandment issue. Our God has commanded us to have no other Gods before Him. To recognize the authority of the IRS by collecting and paying the tax would be to exhalt a greater authority than the Lord Jesus Christ over His church. This of course would be blasphemy. As you well know only subjects can be taxed. As we are sure that you know the Supreme Court has confirmed this on several occasions through the years And if you believe that there is a command in the scriptures or the laws of the US that would require a New Testament church to pay or collect a tax for Caesar, and by doing so, make the IRS King of the New Testament assembly above its rightful Head the Lord Jesus Christ, please inform us.

To further illustrate the basis of law upon which our Congregation stands, you no doubt remember a speech that you gave at Bob Jones University on May 8, 1999, when you were a US Senator. In that speech you gave one of the greatest declarations for the Kingship of Jesus Christ that we have heard of in the recent history of our country.

(The full text of that speech appears at the top of this article)

If you believe what you said on that wonderful occasion, how on earth could you ever order the raid and closure of a Christian church and school especially when you consider the great need of such institutions in our nation today? Will you tell us what your excuse will be when you stand before the Eternal God which you will one day? Is this not rank hypocrisy on your part?

We who believe God’s word must believe that God in spite of your foolish oath has ordained that you serve in your present capacity. But you are to serve as a minister of God according to the instructions of Paul the Apostle to peace officers in his epistle to the Romans at chapter 13, not as a tool of those who are trying to use your office to destroy the Christian foundations upon which our nation was built. As the chief law enforcement officer of our nation you have the responsibility to uphold the Supreme Law of the land which is the Constitution for the United States of America according to Article 6, section 2, as we are sure that you well know says: “This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the Land; and the judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.”

This clearly means that you have a God given responsibility to ignore any court order that violates the clear words of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Therefore, you should know by instinct that an order to raid and seize property of a Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a violation not only of the scriptures but our Constitution which includes the First Amendment which has never been repealed. If you do not have the courage to enforce this Supreme Law that you took an oath to enforce when you entered your present office, then you should be man enough to admit that you cannot serve in the position of Attorney General and be a Christian at the same time and do the honorable thing and resign.

Now, Mr. Ashcroft, if we have come to the time in history in America that a Christian cannot serve in public office without engaging in the systematic persecution of the people of God then we call on you to admit it publicly, and repent of accepting a position that makes it impossible for you to serve without violating numerous scriptures. Please remember the solemn admonition of the Lord Jesus whom you say that you believe and serve:

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe unto the world because of offenses! For it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 18:6-10)

Following are other selected passages of scripture that we feel also has bearing on this subject.

w “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another: as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples that ye have love one for the other.” (John 13:34,35)

w “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John 15:12-14)

w “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” (I John 3:14-17)

w “Beloved let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (I John 3:7,8)

w “Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.” (I John 4:11,12)

w “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.” (I John 4:16,17)

w “We love Him, because He first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from Him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.” (I John 4:19-21)

In the light of this clear admonition of the God that we both claim to serve, will you please explain to our congregation and especially the children how you exhibited the love of God toward us when you ordered the raid on our church property and then made those slanderous remarks publicly over CNN and Fox News?

We wish that you and the others that engaged in the closing of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple buildings could have heard the weeping and loud crying of the children when they knew that they couldn’t ever come back to those buildings. Why don’t you explain to those children how a man who claims to be a Christian and an American becomes so calloused that he can order the closing of buildings where children are learning the Holy Scriptures and yet you have accused us by your speech of December 5 of training the next wave of terrorists. We can only pray that God will have mercy on your soul when you meet these children at the judgment and hear their cries, begging you for mercy, while you turned a deaf ear.

Please know that our pastors and congregation have no animosity toward you or anyone else in the government who have “framed mischief by a law” but we pray for them that God will bring you and them to repentance before they must stand before His holy presence to give an account as to how they have violated the supreme law of the land in the US and the Holy Scriptures.

In that you appear regularly all over America to preach and sing, we extend to you a standing invitation to come to the Indianapolis Baptist Temple, which still exists even without a building, to explain to our congregation from the Holy Scriptures as to why you ordered the raid and seizure of our church property, and as to what evidence you have that we are a terrorist organization. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Yours Most Sincerely,

Rev. Greg A. Dixon, Pastor Indianapolis Baptist Temple
